My research
I am a first year geology graduate student at a mid-size university in the midwest. I can be considered many things, including:
1. Petrologist. The rocks I am analyzing are mainly basalts. These basalts include hand samples and thin sections.
2. Geochemist. The rock samples gathered through field work will be prepared for lab work. The main thrust of my master’s project is using the Re-Os isotope system as a tracer.
3. Volcanologist. The basalts I am studying erupted from small volcanic vents over a span of several millions years (~6 - recent).
To sum up my project in a short paragraph, I am trying to understand and unravel the evolution of a small volcanic field located in the Northwest United States. Geologic tools to be used in this project include isotope data, petrographic information, geochemical data, and the knowledge of time. The data and conclusions obtained in this study will be added to existing information already know about evolution of the NW U.S.
More detailed information about any aspect of my work can easily be provided!
